Miracles on Patrol

My buddy Al (the other “Miracle”) and I were moseying around the PCU with our walkers (a sight to behold) and are starting to feel like aging, arthritic hamsters when we come upon the elevator bank. Could our horizons possibly have expanded exponentially?  Let’s push the button and see if they’re still working (It’s around 9 pm) and Voila! we have a magic portal to another dimension.  One of sight and sound…  Let’s go to the 1st floor where there’s lots more room, good places to sit & talk and an altogether more interesting view.

The Portal obeys our command, delivering us silently to the 1st floor in seconds.  And we continue our walker-ing and talking.  We’re moseying back around in search of the elevators when my phone rings (never leave home – or your hospital room – without it).  It’s my lovely wife wondering just where I might be…  Well Hi, sweetheart.  We’re down on the 1st floor just moseyin’ along havin’ us a little palaver.  “Did you tell anyone you were going there?” in a slightly more chilly tone than previously…   “Uh, well…  I guess not.  I figured with all this telemetry hanging off me they knew where we were all the time…”

It seems this was not the least bit amusing (well, slightly) to everyone in sight on our floor and as we round a corner still scanning for elevators, one of our favorite sharp-eared nurses rounds the same corner and finds us looking sheepish.  As we all come out of the 3rd floor elevator, you should have heard the commotion.  We both got a good-matured “talking-to” by everyone who counts, but we also brought some levity, stress relief and smiles to the faces of the many nurses and techs we’ve come to love like family in only a week.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I am feeline much better already and will be going home (no rehab) Yay Either tomorrow or Monday. If it weren’t for how hideously uncomfortable Baylor’s beds are. I’d want to stay longer. Now I think tomorrow sounds pretty good.
