Day 7 (Sunday) – and Home
We spend the morning walking the floor, visiting, saying our good-byes and packing. Well to be fair, Karen does all the packing. I take another shower and I’m getting better at this – and it feels great.
But hold on just a danged minit! My thighs rub together now? WTF? Never in the entire 61+ years of Warren Paul Harris have my thighs rubbed together! If I was wearing corduroy we’d have a full-blown fire hazard (to say nothing of a sneaking-up problem) Dammit! This just ain’t right. Remember that lack of self-respect thing we started out with? Well here it is again.
Central Line is removed and now I’m finally untethered again!
We bring home a “Reacher” from the hospital, figuring it will be a daily necessity for some time. Karen’s daughter picks us up a long-handle soft-bristle shower brush.. This seems like the best of all the options for scrubbing feet / legs /back and getting between toes…
I don’t find I have any use for a walker, but a cane is invaluable in terms of getting up and down from the chair, couch, toilet, etc.
You will benefit from a recliner chair. They are easy to get into and out of – and can be a great place for naps – or to sleep. Keeping your legs elevated is crucial too. I gained just over 10 lbs in pure fluids while in the hospital, manifested as some edema (swelling ) in my left leg. We have a massaging recliner that a special option to massage feet, legs, thighs individually. We’ve had it for years. Sanyo makes them. See if you can rent one like this. They are wonderful.
Test all your previously comfortable chairs, etc. for compatibility with your new back – and back brace/
