Déjà vu All Over Again
added June 20, 2012
(I forgot all about this little side-trip into the Twilight Zone)
Déjà vu, that unshakable sensation that whatever we are doing, experiencing, listening to or involved in at this particular point in the time-space continuum has happened before. This is something most, if not all of us have experienced. I think it’s safe to say the majority of us have had that moment when we say out lout Déjà vu! – because something we’re doing has “happened before”. And that’s all well and good. Little pothole in the road of life and on we meander to the next way-point giving it no further thought.
Well what if your entire day was like that? Like Day 2 in ICU was for me? From the moment I woke up until the time they rolled me down the hall into PCU, it was all as if someone had hit Rewind on the Blu-Ray Player of my life and re-played about the last 12 hours just as a little joke on moi. Conversations I had with my wife, Doctors, nurses, techs, I’d had before. Conversations between 2 other people where I knew what the next response was going to be prior to the words being uttered happened continuously during my ICU stay. All of this really creeped-out my wife as I kept saying “Déjà vu” all throughout the day.
Of course the ICU staff chalked it up to the effects of anesthesia or some other chemical reaction, but this here is Not “my first rodeo”, Bubba, and I’ve never had this kind of entertainment attached to any other surgical procedure. (If only we’d been watching the Lotto results…) Right down to the art on the walls and the route taken when they rolled me from ICU to PCU, it was all a replay of prior events.
You explain it to me.
