User, Abuser or Addict
One of my favorite sayings is: “It is often difficult to remember your original objective was to drain the swamp when you’re up to your ass in alligators.”
By the time one or more of these opiate-based painkillers has a firm grip on your Central Nervous System (CNC) and your psyche – it’s mighty difficult to cut through the haze and realize You are now the cause of your own problems. A little hint here (from personal experience): When you start thinking everyone else is an asshole who’s just trying to bring you down… It’s YOU that’s the asshole. Always. The entire world is not going to turn into a bunch of raving lunatics overnight – and you didn’t either. It took you awhile to make the leap from user – to dependent – to addict – to asshole.
This is a nexus point for you. A place to realize You are the problem and You hold the key to the cure.
Why to I say this here? It’s easy to go from needing painkillers – to using drugs – to abusing drugs – to being an addict. By the time you’re an addict, it’s pretty hard to see that you are. Opiates and the like do Not make you high if you are truly in pain. It’s a very interesting function. Morphine I find to be like magic for me. The pain is gone, I don’t feel loopy and I’m fully functional.
The serious painkillers actually block the sensation of pain from reaching your brain.
- But after the pain is gone.
- After the problem is solved.
- After you’re cured…
- and you continue to use the drugs…
- You Are An Addict.
Not everyone becomes an addict and you don’t have to be in pain because you’re worried about becoming one. Just be honest with yourself about what you need and why. And have someone else you can count on to tell you the truth and be your daily “Sanity Check”
