What they are the rest of the time is not important, buy when you need them, they had darned-well better be tables.
I’m particularly fond of IKEA’s DAVE table. It’s a small, lightweight, adjustable wood table that’s great for a laptop, dinner tray or a place to organize your meds and such. Check them out. Dave comes in 3 different colors: Red, Black and White – and for a whopping $34.95.
Sure there are lots of other options, but these are inexpensive, adjustable and fit almost anywhere due to their triangular shape.
