Happy Holidays!

by on Dec.07, 2014, under News

2014 has been a year of change, growth and challenges for us – and likely for you, too.

Relocating to Dallas this last February was exactly the right thing for us to do, as we really needed to be closer to the Arts District, Deep Ellum and some actual culture.  We got all that and more!  We love it here.  It did take over 6 months to get all the upgrades and additions in place, but once it was finished, we had exactly the home we wanted in exactly the place we wanted.  And the cats love the new digs.  They now have lots of windows with an abundance of critters to entertain them.

We hope you have had as exciting and rewarding a year as we have and look forward to working with you in 2015 on any creative endeavors you have in store for the coming year.

We’ve been having a lot of fun with Winston, our very angry baby Mockingbird (the Texas state bird) and he is the one thing we really miss.  He’s still in Frisco, so if you see him around, please tell him we are in North Dallas.  Tell him to just ask the local critters where the daily buffet is.  We feed them all.

Winston - HO HO HO Merry Christmas!

Did you know we have an entire line of Note Cards — and Greeting Cards?

And Calendars.  Yep.  We have 2015 Calendars in a number of themes just in time for the New Year.

Join Us for Southlake’s Oktoberfest

by on Oct.01, 2014, under Art Shows, Events, Exhibitions, News

Howdy everyone!

We will be at Southlake’s Oktoberfest this weekend.  Stop by and say Hi if you have time.  It will be fun.  We will be in booths 66 & 67 facing north toward the Town Hall – right next to Die Festhalle in the center of the exhibit area.

Hillside Motel

Hillside Motel

We will have our usual double booth with lots of large Limited Edition prints, 16×20 prints and some new images.  A large selection of note cards will be on hand as well.

We are almost out of books, so this is your last opportunity in 2014 to pick up a signed / personalized copy of Texas As I See It.

We will be launching a crowdfunding program for the reprint shortly. This will be a good way to pick up the 2nd printing at a discount, but delivery will be early next year.

( I did not create the map, so I am not responsible for typos… 😉

Large Art on Display at Munzee Marketplace

by on Sep.16, 2014, under Exhibitions, gallery updates, News

The newest arrival in McKinney’s square is Munzee Marketplace.  For those of you not familiar with Munzee, it’s a tak-eoff on geocaching that has exploded into an online game with Munzees (QR codes) deployed on every continent.  Billed as a “21st century scavenger hunt, the concept has really taken off in the last couple of years.

Munzee Marketplace

Munzee Marketplace

In the process of expanding their offices in McKinney, they elected to put in a retail store for their products (QR codes, shirts, merchandise galore.  While planning their retail store, a decision was made to fill a gap in the services available in downtown McKinney and the store concept evolved into a fully functional convenience store.

Along with the usual assortment of snacks, medications and Texas-made items like salsa, they are including local art.

In addition to my book, Texas As I See It, they have a nice selection of McKinney / Texas-centric note cards as well.  Just this week they finished installing three pieces of my limited edition art.

The big canvas of Texas Landscape 1 (the cover of my book) is 69″ wide and sells for $1,675.00

The three limited editions on display are:

The Lost Art of the Hand-Written Letter

by on Oct.10, 2011, under News, Recommendations, social commentary

Until recently, I had not given the letter-writing issue a lot of thought.  The only instance where I actually even type out a letter and mail it is when communicating with one luddite (close relative) with whom I cannot communicate via email.  So I have to actually sit down, compose, write, sign and mail a letter when I want to find out what’s going on in his world.

Then we decided to produce a line of Fine Art note cards and the topic of hand-written letters surfaced in a different way.  Why do people actually hand-write anything these days?  Thank You cards and Sympathy cards seems to be about it.  Handwriting is becoming a lost art.  And writing in cursive is almost unheard-of.

Then I received a letter in the mail.  An actual letter.  Not printed on a computer – or typed on a typewriter (remember those?) – but actually hand-written on letterhead.  This was from the VP of a vendor with whom I used to spend a lot of money regularly.  She wrote me a full page letter in a beautiful back-slant script to say how much they valued my business and would love to have me back – and to sweeten the deal,  included a 10% discount.

Upon seeing an actual hand-written letter in cursive, I picked up a magnifying glass to determine if it was actual handwriting (It was).  Then I actually read the entire letter.  And then I looked through the enclosed catalog.

And now I’m about to place an order with this company.  Some of the reason is that I now need their products again.  But I could find an equivalent product elsewhere.  But this is the company from which I received a full-page hand-written offer.

It makes a difference.

Maybe if we spent the time to send the occasional “real” letter to our friends and colleagues, it would have some tangible results.  Like keeping the Post Office in business…  And generating increased revenue in our respective businesses.

If this sounds like good advice to you, take a look at our line of Fine Art Note Cards to get the ball rolling.
