So We Had a Little Snow…

Snow Elf

Snow Elf

Actually, this was a snowstorm with record-setting amounts of pretty, fluffy, cold (and slippery) white stuff – the likes of which we have never seen during our tenure in the Lone Star State.  I’m especially fond of the little “snow elf” in the early part of the show.

And naturally I had to take some photos.  So Karen and I took a walk around our little slice of paradise with the appropriate camera equipment and winter attire.  This gave us an opportunity to visit with our neighbors who were busy constructing fairly large snowmen (and women).  And this time they didn’t have to rake the entire yard to accomplish this feat as in years past.  With better than six inches of snow accumulated on every horizontal surface, the process of snowperson building was greatly simplified.  Yay!

Gallery Updates, January 11, 2010

Griffin Parc Frozen Fountain

Griffin Parc Frozen Fountain

Mother Nature’s record-setting streak of sub-freezing weather this Winter, makes for some interesting photo opportunities.  Beautiful? Yes.  Inconvenient?  You bet!  Especially after a pipe burst in the attic above our garage.  There’s nothing quite as disturbing as coming home to a fire truck in front of your home with water gushing out from under your garage door (and freezing solid almost instantly).  Anyway…

We have a lovely fountain in our development, which I have photographed on more than one occasion.  Knowing it would be nicely frozen, I made the pilgrimage up to the fountain on the coldest morning of the Arctic Blast (4 degrees or so) with camera in hand.  This yielded some dramatic photos and a frozen face (mine).

Additionally, I recently re-evaluated and re-processed a few photos from our project to light up the grain elevators in Old Town Frisco from a couple of years ago.  You can find the new moonlight photo of this unique structure on the Architecture Page.

Gallery Updates at the End of 2009

by warrenharris on Dec.31, 2009, under News, Projects, Recent Projects

While I’ve been very busy shooting various projects this year, I haven’t really done a lot of updating to the galleries here for some time.  With the end of the year rapidly approaching, I thought I ought to get busy and post some updates from recent shoots.  So:

Kelsey in the 1937 Ford

Kelsey Susan’s gallery was updated today with shots from our Girls and Cars shoot in October.  This is part of my ongoing project, to be published in 2010.  We shot these images at a local car show, which requires roughly an hour of editing for each image to remove unwanted background distractions.  This is why I prefer shooting cars in a controlled environment.  You will see the results of shooting at night with better control in Ashley’s portfolio in a few days.  Stay tuned for the updates.

Deanna and the 1968 Shelby

Deanna’s 2nd shoot is also posted to her gallery as a result of our December addition to the Girls and Cars project.  As with Kelsey’s shoot, we were working a local car show, and the long hours of editing that ensued were well worth the effort.  Enjoy.

Gallery Updates as September Draws to a Close

Texas State Fair Ferris Wheel

Texas State Fair Ferris Wheel

It’s been a busy week or so, with some projects I’ve been planning for a long time out of the way.  And a couple of opportunities – as well as the occasional detour or two allowing me to add some new images to my galleries.

Top of my list was the Texas State Fair.  We hadn’t been there in 10 years and I wanted a shot of Big Tex for my upcoming book on Texas, so off we went this last Monday night.  The fair was everything we’d remembered, but quieter – the advantage of going on a week night instead of a weekend day.  If you go, be sure to try the fried Peaches and Cream.  Excellent treat.  We elected not to try this years headline item, the Deep Fried Butter, as I’d like not to be going in for an arterial roto-rooter procedure any sooner than necessary.

Additionally, we spent the weekend at our friends’ home on Cedar Creek Lake, which gave me the opportunity to photograph the Gun Barrel City sign (seems the classic old billboard is long gone…) and the Crandall Cotton Gin on the way back (one of our favorite stops when we’re out on the Harley.)  Check it out when you’re down that way.  These images are in the Texas Gallery and one update to the Flora and Fauna Gallery.
